God's Promises

God hath not promised skies always blue Flower strewn pathways, all our lives through;  God that not promised sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
God hath not promised we shall not know Toil and temptations, trouble and woe;  He hath not told us we shall not bear Many a burden, many a care.
God hath not promised smooth roads and wide, Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;  Never a mountain, rocky and steep, Never a river turbid and deep.
But God hath promised strength for the day, Rest for the labour, light for the way, Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing kindness, undying love.

This is a song written by Annie Johnson Flint back in the 1920's.  This poem has always helped me when I was in need, even before I was saved.  I remember seeing a copy of this once, and it helped me so much.
I have a cousin who had a 4 wheeler accident and is now in a nursing home.  I remember asking God, "Why" and wondering how a loving God could allow such a thing.  As I read my Bible though, I don't find any promise that all will go well.  God never mentions that we will be healthy, wealthy and wise all our days.  My faith now lies in what God does promise and not what He doesn't.  The song playing in the background is the same song on this page.  I hope it helps you as much as it has me throughout my life.
