What is my occupation?

Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Occupation is something that takes up most of your time.  Well most of my time is spent taking care of my children, husband, and home.  I am a homemaker.  According to Webster's Dictionary a homemaker is "one who manages a household."  I believe that being a homemaker is God's will for my life.  Why?  Well, look at scripture with me.

1 Timothy 5:14 says,"I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully."

Titus 2:5 says,"To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

I could go on and on, but I won't.  I have been a wife that worked and one that stayed home.  I have had my children in public school and I have had them home with me to learn.  I can't even describe the differences in my house.

When I worked, we would all come home exhausted, I would prepare dinner while my husband bathed the kids, then we would eat, and put the kids to bed.  Then we would bath and go to bed.  On the weekends we would spend all day Saturday buying groceries, cleaning the house, and doing laundry.  By Monday, we were exhausted and our workweek was starting again. God knew what He was doing when he planned for women to stay home.

Now, I homeschool the kids.  We buy groceries during the week.  All the laundry and household chores are done while my husband works during the week.  He comes home to dinner ready, we have time in the evenings for devotions and time together.  Saturdays are spent enjoying each other and visiting with family.  What a great plan God had.

I am not saying all is perfect and totally stress free.  But, to compare the differences, our current home is much more peaceful and calmer.  It is God's will and everything is smoother when you are in God's will.

I believe women should put all their time and energy into their homes.  I know some would complain about that, but don't we put as much effert into our hobbies, our jobs, earning our degrees??  I remember when I worked.  I put my all into my job.  I was the first one there and the last one to leave.  Why then is it so difficult to want to nurture our families?

You and your husband are on the same team, or didn't you know that?  You work together.  He works and you help make his paycheck stretch to the next paycheck.  It is really a great joy and challenge to come up with different menus for dinner or ways to organize the chores, or just how much money we can save at the grocery store.

I establish the mood in my home.  When I am stressed out and don't cook dinner and frown when my husband comes home, he reacts to me.  I just make his day worse.  Then he grumbles at me and we fuss and scream at the kids.  But if I great him with a kiss and a smile, I have created a refuge for him.  Somewhere that he wants to be.  Are you starting to see?

When I first got saved, I started reading the Bible.  I was starving for God's word.  One day I read Proverbs 31.  I remember thinking, "What a great woman".  It did not occur to me that Proverbs 31 is God's will for all women, including me.  Regardless of your home life growing up, God can show you how to be a virtuous woman.  You are capable of doing all things through Christ.  Don't ever forget how special you are, and how special you are to your family.  Although I am not "there" yet, God works on me daily.  He is so patient with me and loving.  Some days are better than others and some days I just don't want to do anything, but I always remember to try.  I strive to be like Him.

Proverbs 31:10-22

10) Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.11) The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12) She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13) She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.      14)She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15) She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16) She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17) She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18) She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19) She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20) She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21) She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22) She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23) Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24) She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25) Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26) She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27) She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28) Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29) Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30) Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31) Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.                       Pr 31:10-31
